New Attendee. Possibly.

Post by jipster » Fri Nov 09, 2018 5:03 pm

After much badgering over many years, John Madison may have finally convinced me to take the drive to scenic Sandusky next year.

As I'm looking around, I've got a few newbie questions.

1) How does one actually register for Winterfest? Is there a form? A place to send money to?
2) Do we sign up for games? If so, how? If not, is it a scramble when we get there? Do we have to get permission from whoever brought whatever games we are interested in?
3) Most importantly, where do people get those fancy tweezers i see in the gallery section???

Thanks!

Jonathan,
Seems John has you set up here on the forums. That is the gateway to see what is being played, people looking for games. Watch the threads and ask to join what you are interested in. Usually space in most games depending on your skill level. If you want to host a game I will need to know how much table space if it is larger (3-4 players).

We register you on arrival. To make reservations at the hotel, back out of the forums and go to the Winterfest Wargaming home page. Hotel information, dates and phone number is there. Be sure to use the local hotel number and mention you are with Winterfest to get the group rate. If you use the 800 number they won’t know what you are talking about.

There are a lot of pick up games and lots of members bring stacks to choose from. If there is something you don’t have and want to play, mention it and I am sure someone will bring it. We have sold the tweezers a couple times in past years, having them made to order. I could do that again if there are enough buyers.

Glad you are joining us. Regards

Hey Jon,

Just give me a call or direct chat or something and I can go over everything. As Merv said, just put some feelers out there on the forum. We have a very informal way of figuring out what we are playing. It's not really setup like a traditional convention where you per-register. We just throw stuff at the wall we want to play and if it sticks and enough people are in to play that is what gets setup.

Right now I know we are needing players for the big OCS Third Winter/Forgotten Battles scenario. That is what I'm playing so I've not payed a whole lot of attention to the other game threads. I plan on setting up Barbarossa Derailed as a side game 1v1 as well. I've been wanting to play Black Orchestra as well so I'm buying that and bringing it.

My brother (Donato) and I are coming. Got our room for 20-23rd, best we can do to avoid work that week. We are planning on playing Thunder in the East while there, both just got it before Christmas. Will look for other games to jump into while there. Pericles could be one if we find two others to join in. Mark

Mark,
Not familiar with Thunder in the East. I will register it though for that time. How big is it so I know how many tables. Glad to have you both.

I think Thunder in the East is going to be a two-table affair if they're going to try playing the whole thing.

PS: Also up for Pericles as a fill-in game. Glad you guys are going to make it.
