Side/small games for 2016

Postby ThisLee » Sun Sep 13, 2015 9:47 pm

Troy and I talked about OCS Korea this weekend, and I'd like to revisit Victory Games' Korean War, too.

Earlier this week, Todd and I spoke about Here I Stand, which we'd like to try again, or perhaps one of the other multi-player CDGs. Right now, I am listening on CD to a book on the Congress of Vienna, so Napoleonic Wars would be a good option.

Also Napoleonic: anyone for War and Peace?

I'm always interested in DAK as a side game.

I think I will be tied up with Civil War games this year. Things can always change as we approach February due to the vagaries of peoples personal lives.

For what it is worth I am on turn # 95 of on War and Peace Campaign game May 1813. I am using all the extra rules and additions printed in the "General" along with some common sense. By the end of the year everyone could be fighting the French and their lone ally Austria ( ready to go neutral any time). I have done a number of the shorter scenarios over the years. All very interesting.

Compass Games published a Grand campaign Napoleonic game last year (the name escapes me). If I can remember I will bring it along as it is multiplayer and more involved than W&P for folks to look at.

as far as side games and a final game on that Saturday would be good. OCS Korea, OCS DAK are both good games. Lee I have tons of Napoleonic games at home but nobody to play with and I do have War and Peace. Flattop on Friday/Saturday would still be good.

Troy,

Just curious. What Napoleonic games would you like to consider for sided games?

I cannot remember if War & Peace would make a good (read: short) side game or no.

Does anyone have the mulitplayer card-driven Napoleonic Wars?

Side Game Stuff (SGS) I'm excited about playing for Winterfest:

Space Empires 4x - 2 - 4 players, building an empire and a fleet to wipe out your friends and neighbors. Intuitive, simple, deep
Hoplite - 2 player, couple hours for small scenarios up to all day for Platea
Wing Leader - two player mission level operational game by Lee Brimmicombe-Wood. Looks to be fairly fast, fun. Beautiful counters.
Second World War at Sea - Haven't cracked these open but have Coral Sea, Midway, Bomb Alley (Mediterranean).
Normandy 44 - finally a Normandy game that works! Sweet design with just the right choices made for abstraction. Plays well, and somehow gets it done as a 1 mapper.

Still have Flying Colors - and promise that this year I'll pick a better, more balanced scenario

Dave,

Are you speaking of Legion of Honor by Clash of Arms? I'm not one for card games, but this one looks pretty good.

OCS Korea is inviting as well.

Wing Leader definitely looks good and one which I would enjoy trying to get a game in on.

Normandy '44/Ardennes '44 both look exciting for side games.

I might even be willing to give Space Empires 4X a go, although I don't own it.

If you mean the game that GMT did ( the name escapes me) I have it. Never played it but went through the rules.

Roger

I can bring it if you like.
